Another year, another list of things I promise to do but know I won’t

It’s January!! That means it’s time to bust out our list of resolutions from the past 10 years, dust them off and pinky promise that this year we will really, truly follow through. For real this time.another year (insert eye roll and sarcastic comment here)

According to one source, the 5 most popular resolutions are:

  • eat better
  • exercise more
  • spend less money
  • self care (ie: getting more sleep)
  • read more books

Interestingly enough, 4 of the 5 are also on the list of most commonly broken resolutions.

Hmmmm….

I know that I, for one, have been guilty of making (and breaking) all five of these resolutions at one point or another. And then, of course, the next year I pinky promise that this year I really truly will not fail. And then, I do.

But I think I’ve figured it out, at least for me. Everyone one of those resolutions is entirely too vague. What exactly does it mean to eat better? Skip dessert once a week or completely stop eating anything that is considered “not healthy”? How about exercising more? Since I pretty much never exercise anyway, if I get in a good walk once a month, does that count?

It’s hard to determine success if you don’t have a way to measure it. So here’s my plan:

  • Focus on drinking at least 64 oz of water every day.
  • Take my Plexus products regularly.
  • Choose meat and veggies over pasta and potatoes whenever possible
  • Write out a budget and stick to it (shh… don’t tell my husband)
  • Get at least 8 hours of sleep at least 4 times a week.
  • Complete 50 books

Now, I can’t guarantee that I’ll totally follow through. (Thankful for grace!) But, at least I’ll have a better idea of what success looks like.

So, do you make resolutions? I’d love to hear them!
